Program Design Overview

To assist adults with developmental disabilities of San Luis Obispo County in the acquisition and retention of integrated community employment options, either in groups through individual placements, to maximize employment potential, vocational choice, independence and earning in the least restrictive environment.

AHI provides an array of vocational services and programs to assist clients in developing appropriate workplace skills and behaviors as to enhance individual productivity, independence and community integration. Four programs are offered to agency clientele:

  • Facility based vocational training
  • Supported Employment, community integrated crews
  • Job Placement and employment retention services
  • Situational assessment, a program to identify an individual’s strengths at specific job sites and barriers which have precluded the client from accessing employment opportunities.

  • 11th Hole Grill, Laguna Lake Golf Course
  • CHP SLO Office, Janitorial
  • City of Pismo Beach, Janitorial/ Groundskeeping Crew

Goals & Values

  • Educate the local business community of hiring individuals with disabilities.
  • Providing a variety of quality vocational training services to individuals with disabilities.
  • Provide an atmosphere that challenges the individual, promotes personal growth, teaches self-empowerment independence and recognizes accomplishments.
  • Encourage the individual to communicate their vocational objectives, in order to set obtainable goals
  • Provide a natural support in the workplace.
  • Support and encourage an individual with opportunities to work independently within the community.

Inclusion in the Community

Supported employment training program rests upon the belief that anyone should be offered the opportunity to work in the community. While the rural nature of our community and its limited business/economic base present challenges to placement, the program will seek to provide training and employment opportunities to all individuals who qualify for services.

Target Population

AHI’s Supported Employment program is intended to serve adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities who reside in San Luis Obispo Area; eligibility is determined by the Interdisciplinary team, consisting of the Client, Tri-Counties Regional Case Management, support network and AHI’s service coordinator. Annual reviews are gone over to ensure the goals of the individual are being met and any needed adjustments to the service plan.

Program Quality Standards

AHI’s Supported Employment will be operated under the guidelines and standards as defined in the CARF manuals. At minimum, the following certification and accreditation criteria will be met with the following standards:

  1. Department of Developmental Services- Supported Employment Program
  2. CARF standards for Activity Center Trainings-
  3. Tri Counties Regional Center- Case Management
  4. Department of Rehabilitation-
